This is, in short, the list of pathologies that have a “sweet” enemy in common: galactose.
Research carried out by Ce.Ri.Fo.S, a Scientific Research and Education Center, in collaboration with Cerebro®, has shown how this simple sugar, or monosaccharide, contained in breast milk and therefore well known to our metabolism, is able to counteract the symptoms of the most serious neurodegenerative diseases. Including Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s, which today are among the greatest challenges of European health care.
In the presence of chronic stress or elevated insulin, the insulin receptors in the cells are damaged. In the long run this damage makes it more difficult for sugar to enter the cell, which ends up lacking energy. In an emergency, the cell burns other valuable elements, causing intra and extra cellular hyperacidity and promoting the accumulation of catabolites and ammonia. This situation, in addition to having negative consequences on brain activity, causes fatal consequences in the muscles and various other organs.
Galactose, on the other hand, is a monosaccharide that has an important characteristic: it penetrates the cell without needing the insulin receptor and is therefore, metabolized independently of insulin. This peculiarity makes galactose essential in the interruption of that vicious metabolic cycle that damages cognitive performance, together with the functions of various organs, including liver and kidneys.
In order to evaluate the effectiveness of D-Galactose produced by Cerebro® from a 100% plant extract, Ce.Ri.Fo.S has allowed its application and use on patients.
In studies conducted by our Research Centre, the power of galactose has been widely demonstrated to decrease blood glucose values and improve cognitive performance. In the most recent study, D-Galactose was administered daily for six months to patients in the preclinical phase of dementia. At the beginning, during and at the end of the research, the cognitive performance of the patients was verified through the administration of different types of tests. The results clearly showed significant improvements in some specific areas of brain functions, thus confirming that the administration of galactose improves the energy supply to brain cells to the extent that it prevents their decay with advancing age.
“Another study involving diabetes II patients, who were administered D-Galactose twice a week, showed a significant improvement in blood glucose values that returned to normal within three months,” comments Dr. Samorindo Peci, scientific director of Ce.Ri.Fo.S who has been carrying out research on the neuroinflammatory diseases listed above for years.
This is not to say that galactose is the treatment of preference for Alzheimer’s disease and the other pathologies mentioned, but that it can certainly improve the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease by facilitating the quality of life of patients and their families.
